Coraline

From the film Coraline we get to see what it is like to have a living mother but the main character Coraline doesn’t see her as a good mother. With her mother being there

and not as an absence figure Coraline is able to get a perspective

of what a loving mother is. Coraline although wishes if her mother were

different and therefore she gets her mother taken and now must fight to

get her back. The brief moments we have in the film with the mother

missing demonstrates the inner chain lock between a mother and the children. 

   

 The movie Coraline is a lot different from the dead mother aspect, and

this is due to the fact that the mother isn’t dead, just not liked by Coraline

. She wishes that her parents were different and that she could like them more,

but not all wishes are good wishes. 

Coraline eventually gets her wish and her parents are magically

taken by the family in which she likes the most, and even when the

family she dreams of having is a reality she wants her old family back.

This inner love is what pushes her to track down her parents and rescue them from the chaos she started. 

While Coraline’s Mother wasn’t dead, she was taken instead which in the end replicates the dead mother aspect but in a more child-friendly manner. The absence of a

mother is an important role in a movie because it demonstrates the will

of a child to push through and find the happiness that can replace the missing parent.

This also drives the main plot to be more thrilling and has a more enhanced story.

How Father's Are Seen In Modern Society.

Within Sarah's post she states that, "the dead mother is replaced not by an evil stepmother but by a good father." Our perceived reason for this statement is because it shows that fathers can be good and can be a present life model in the child's life. 

If you look at today’s society you see that the father is the one who is primarily missing and not present. The interpretation of why the mother is always dead in children’s movies is because the chance for a father to be recognized and seen is very slim. The thought when a person says a single parent is usually and most likely a single mom, who was left by the husband. And with these movies the chance to show what a single dad would go through. It’s like a game of baseball but flipped. Instead of seeing the typical mom raising the kids and living a hard life they show that the dad is the one going through the missing other half. Most of these children’s movies know and understand that the single moms are credited and they want them world to see that a

Example of Dad Stepping Up.

When thinking about the fact that the mother is the one parent who is usually missing indicates that the father needs a moment to shine and the best movie that we see this the move "Despicable Me".

In this movie if you haven't seen it, is about a man who is supposed to be a villain adopts three little girls from a orphanage. While he goes through this process of adopting he only thinks about one thing and that's to take the moon and put it in his house. This villains name is Gru, and Gru has to step up and become a father and do what a father does. His original idea was to just adopt and then proceed to take and then return the children. As Gru goes on with his life he notices that they don't know many key life skills and this molds him.

Gru being a solo parent needs to act as both a mother and a father. He not only takes them to school and makes them into a functional family he has to adapt to jobs and acts in which a mom would help out with. Gru has to work, cook, clean, and provide love and affection (ignore the fact that he has his minions do the cleaning and cooking).

But with the mother being gone its showing that the one parent job can be filled out by a father or a dad. As fathers are looked at in today's world they are either there and caring or just missing in general and not present. Grue really steps up and manages to complete task and jobs while caring for his family.

One of Sarah's View's

As Sarah mentions in her post she says "Quite simply, mothers are killed
 in today’s kids’ movies so the fathers can take over." Sarah speaks out very
 boldly and takes a light jab at the world in which men are more dominant. Sarah 
could have said, "so that men can have a chance to shine as a parent, who is present." But she instead took a punch at the perception that men rule everything and are now trying to take over another place. 

This is a very broad statement though and the perception that fathers
 can take over is too much. Fathers dont get the amount of respect that 
women get in the world. Children see their mom as both protector and 
care giver and then they look at their dad as a friend more than a father figure. 

Fathers never get a chance to show off and show that they can be kind,
 loving and generous. Fathers arent looking to take over the movies, we are just looking to be seen and heard. Walt Disney's lost his mother and in result only had a father to 
watch over him as he grew up and lived. So this could have drove him to see 
that fathers are left in the back while moms take the credit of caring for children and so he wanted to show off the dads, since he was raised by his dad.

Conclusion: 

In most of the animations, the mother, as a character, is

not only a figure of someone who raises her children and or someone

who does chores for the family but more importantly, a protector

or supporter. Thus, the loss of the mother is a sign that the family loses

some protection, in other words, the family would need more protection

to fill up what is lost, like the movie Despicable Me and Finding Nemo,

the father steps up and acts as a stronger and a more responsible character

in his family to protect it. However, there are some plots that the characters who lost their mothers starting protecting themselves and their loved ones. 

In addition, the mother is also a figure of love that asks for nothing, like the

movie Coraline, the main character Coraline realized how her mother loves

her and the true meaning of being with her mother after leaving her to another idealize family.
